Hence the need to train first aiders to act as a coordinated team and to use simple equipment. This training is delivered at two levels: PSE 1 and PSE 2.

Please note Holders of these qualifications must complete a 2-day refresher every 2 years.

02Course objective

What is at stake
3 to 4 minutesto save the victim

01Life-threatening emergency

Cardiac arrest is an absolute emergency: without treatment, the outcome is always fatal. The first aider has only 3 to 4 minutes to save the victim.

They must quickly perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Early use of an AED is now the most effective intervention for this emergency. Learning to use this device is a major civic duty.

02Course objective

  1. Acquiring the skills to recognise cardiac arrest quickly and immediately perform effective Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) combined with automated external defibrillation, to increase the victim's chances of survival.

03Course content

4 h theory and practice

  • The chain of survival
  • Placing the pads
  • Using the device safely for the first aider, the victim and bystanders
